North Korea

NORTH KOREA AND RUSSIA

Our work to stop this illogical and tragic blackmailing of the world by  crazed despots

The tragic, crazy status quo that lets our enemies attack our friends. Someday it might be us, attacked.

For decades, North Korea and Russia have used US (and NATO) military GPS, ground stations, and equipment to launch & guide their missiles and jets.

The Ukraine crisis shows, finally, how urgent is the need to change this exploiation of US technology and resources.

> Every major North Korean or Russian missile uses US GPS, US-controlled infrastructure, and western-made electronics.

> Putin needs US GPS to attack the Ukraine. He used it to start the war and kill over 30,000 civilians.

Our CEO made a personal plea to the White House,, the US Senate Intelligence Committee, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other US leadership in the months before the Ukraine invasion, to please allow she and partner engineers at Northrop Grumman offering  to implement her design, attempt a last-minute, physical 'no fly' zone into and over the Ukraine by blocking Putin from US navigation. Approval and funding was not provided. Why?

1985 – 2022

'Negotiations between the United States and North Korea have proceeded in fits and starts for decades. But they have failed to halt the advance of North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.

- Council on Foreign Relations

2022

But, whose navigation did / does North Korea use?  The US had the only reliable, global navigation in the world until 2020, when China's Beidou completed. That vulnerability should have been the US and Nato's top military and scientific priority.

December 1985

North Korea Signs Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty

North Korea ratifies the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT), a multilateral agreement.

September 1991

US Removes American Nuclear Missiles from South Korea

The US  announced it would withdraw 100 nuclear weapons from South Korea as part of the original Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START). The agreement between President George H.W. Bush and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev limited deployment of offensive nuclear weapons abroad.

June 2008

North Korea Declares Nuclear Sites

Pyongyang declare 15 nuclear sites to Beijing,  stating that it had 30 kg of plutonium and used two kg in its 2006 nuclear test. The US initiated talks, which broke down by December. *Whose navigation did North Korea use?

Febrruary - November 2019

2nd US-Kim Summit Ends Early, No Deal

By October, the talks that began in February were at an impasse, and a spokesperson for North Korea’s Foreign Ministry said Pyongyang wouldnot resume negotiations until Washington made a “substantial step” to end  “hostile” policies such as strict sanctions and military exercises with South Korea. This marked the start of nearly zero communication between U.S. and North Korean officials.

What is an example of a groupthink?

Two well-known examples of Groupthink in action are the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster and - we believe - the January 6th attack on the US Congress.  Engineers of the space shuttle knew about some faulty parts months before takeoff, but they did not want negative press so they pushed ahead with the launch anyway, ignoring the engineer frantically flagging the O-Ring malfunction risk.

Is groupthink at play in the  years of anyone in a leadership role - or even any media - failure to address this GPS vulnerability? Our CEO has flagged Russian, Chinese, and North Korean use of US GPS since 2017.   But it was simple logic: every hypersonic and guided missile or jet or drone requires navigational signal to launch and fly. The US GPS network was the only global network available to older jets and missiles - Beidou is 5G. Galileo not yet fully operational for them.

Sometimes, cognitive dissonance - the sudden realization that one's nation or leadership is not 'perfect,' or that mistakes were made by some of the largest corporations in the world, and the rapid dawning next, that maybe, one's own life or family or future are precarious - prevents even the most well-paid and logical public servants or Boards or Congressional offices from facing facts. The US has backed itself, along with Nato into a virtual 'blackmail' situation in which the West has no interim deterrence short of nuclear attack, to dissuade or stop Russia, China, or North Korea. Or there would be no Ukraine War.

We may never forget the images of freezing, brave Ukrainians, trying to carry their pets for a 300 mile trek in winter without food or safety or vehicles. How many Americans would even attempt this? Or of civilian high-rises destroyed or maternity hospitals bombed. And what was even worse - the knowledge that the attacks were carried out using US GPS.  The US must change this state of affairs, and re-invent its provision of global navigational signal. Simply adding military segregation (GPS-III) is not enough. That does nothing to prevent Russia's use of the remaining civilian bandwidth.
